New Writing Festival 2017 – submission period now open (and directors needed too)
The New Writing Festival is an annual event staged by the Dilys Guite Players at the Lantern theatre, Sheffield, and showcases new plays from both local and international writers.
Submissions and directors required
This year, our New Writing Festival will be performed in October as part of our autumn / winter season.
So we look to you, our members, to submit your wonderful writing which we can then build our festival around.
As with previous years, we are looking for pieces that fit the following criteria:
- Be no longer than 20 minutes in length (one A4 page is roughly one minute of stage time)
- Have no more than five characters
- No set changes
- Where possible, suitable for all audiences
- Minimal props
- Subject matter is open to you
All selected pieces, which are subject to creating a varied programme, will be performed predominately in blacks to a black box set by DGP members.
The closing date for submissions is the end of Friday 30th June 2017 and are to be sent to: firstname.lastname@example.org. By submitting an entry you agree to its use in our voluntary festival, if selected, with all proceeds supporting the Dilys Guite Players charity.
The front page of your submission must include:
- The name of the play
- The author / your name
- Number of characters (indicating number of male/female roles and the age range it was written for)
- Your telephone number
- Your email address
We will be holding auditions for the festival in late July and August. More information relating to that will be issued closer to the time.
Please also email us if you are interested in directing as this is a great opportunity for members to take their first directorial steps.
The NWF has been produced by the DGP for many years now and continues to prove a popular event with the members of the DGP as well as within the wider community.
