The Lantern Theatre is Sheffield’s oldest surviving theatre. At over 120 years old, and as a grade II listed building, it is a vital and unique part of Sheffield’s heritage. There aren’t many theatres quite like it. With only 84 seats it is an intimate and atmospheric space.
At The Lantern, we look to engage at a local and national level with the latest and greatest to foster a deep and diverse appreciation of creativity and performance.
The Lantern is owed by The Dilys Guite Players (DGP) who are also the in-house community theatre group. They ensure those with a passion for performance and production can develop and showcase their skills. The DGP produces four shows a year, and our annual New Writing Festival is a fantastic opportunity for writers to get their work performed on stage.
The Lantern is passionate about high quality, highly varied theatre, and is an exciting venue for professional touring shows. Having featured Tony and Olivier Award Winning acts on our stage, our reputation for offering unmissable theatre continues to grow.
We’re located in leafy Nether Edge on the corner of Kenwood Park Road and Priory Road. The theatre is easily accessed by public transport. The 22 bus leaves, every 20 to 30 minutes, from the Cathedral, Peace Gardens or Moorfoot. We are then just a five minute walk from the Montgomery Road stop.
